/ MEET MEITAL

Pastry Chef, mama, and now- home baker. Meet Meital Cohen.

"Growing up I'd watch my grandma bake all the time- she would create magical desserts in the tiniest kitchen. Every time we would come to visit, she was ready to serve with a different cake for us to try. Her creativity was always on display, with chocolate mousse cake and meringue decorations, filled cream puffs, and luscious cheesecakes. I was always amazed to see how simple and easy she made baking look, but most of all, I loved the look of happiness on her face when she saw us tasting her creations. It was so evidently her destiny: to gather people together, make them happy, connect them and create memories.

I think I'm very much like her. Now as a mother and a baker, I love hosting people and opening my home to them. I thrive on the way that food brings people together- no matter where you grew up, or where you are from. Much like my grandma, I've developed the same habit every time I host: to stop, look around at people's faces, cherish the moment, and I'm thankful that I can make people happy with my food and desserts.

It's a blessing to become a part of people's journeys and memories through food."

Meital Cohen began her professional career as a pastry chef for the Westville Restaurant group (NYC) in 2006 after graduating from the French Culinary Institute (now known as the International Culinary Institute). During her years with Westville, the brand became well known and loved in various neighborhoods of the city for its comforting, nourishing menu and selection of homemade pastries by Meital.

In 2018, Westville opened its first coffee shop, simply known as "Westville Bakery" in the East Village. Meital created its wholesale pastry line, and managed its catering and private events. Meital also created a large variety of specialty baked goods that were served daily at Westville Bakery to the delight of Manhattanites and visitors alike.

In 2020, Meital and her family moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she now serves the local community through her local home bake shop, Even Dough
